I wrote "The Other Side" for my friend, Anthony Stoops, whom I had met when we were both students in high school and working at the Pizza Hut Delivery phone center in Columbus, Ohio. I wrote this while an undergrad student, I think in 1994 or so. Several years later, Anthony went on to become the professor of double bass at the University of Oklahoma.
